BRS - Visibility and Collaborative Planning in Multimodal Supply Chain Operations
The Business Requirements Specification (BRS) enables cargo owners and their partners to access operational data from ports and logistics hubs across vessels, barges, trains, and trucks. Current multimodal visibility is constrained by fragmented event data—published inconsistently, shared via ad-hoc arrangements, and rarely covering the full shipment lifecycle. As a result, even basic milestones such as arrival, cargo discharge, gate-in, gate out, or customs release are difficult to align on and to be accessed by the relevant actors, creating delays, inefficiencies, and compliance risks.
The proposed BRS introduces two key enablers:

Current multimodal visibility is constrained by fragmented event data—published inconsistently, shared via ad-hoc arrangements, and rarely covering the full shipment lifecycle. As a result, even basic milestones such as arrival, cargo discharge, gate-in, gate out, or customs release are difficult to align on and to be accessed by the relevant actors, creating delays, inefficiencies, and compliance risks.
The proposed BRS introduces two key enablers:
- A standardized Transport Event Registry providing a curated set of multimodal events with harmonized codes and semantics.
- A standardized access-and-delegation model, operated by platform providers under the governance of Transport Operators—enforces least-privilege, fully auditable access using policy-based (RBAC/ABAC) controls. Supply Chain Actors are onboarded once and granted explicit, time-bound permissions scoped to a consignment, specific equipment, or a means of transport; rights are automatically revoked at lifecycle end, with only read-only access to historical records retained for audit and compliance.
